Rising Interest: Bayern Munich starlet Mathys Tel in demand for short-term move
Bayern Munich are expected to have a quiet winter transfer window. The Bavarian club will have several players returning from serious injuries after the winter break, which will strengthen the squad for the rest of the season. However, there could be a significant departure in January.
Mathys Tel could leave Bayern on loan in January to get adequate game time. The French forward has struggled for minutes on the pitch under Vincent Kompany. He has made six appearances across all competitions, but his overall game time this season has been a meager 116 minutes.
Werder Bremen have been heavily linked with a loan move for Tel in Germany. Foot Mercato in France is now reporting that RB Leipzig and Villarreal have also shown concrete interest in the French forward.
The French media outlet further reports that Tel remains eager to stay at Bayern. However, the Bavarian club is open to sending Tel out on loan to get consistent game time during the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, TZ in Germany has suggested that Tel will make a decision later in December regarding his immediate future at Bayern. The German media outlet has also reported that English clubs are also interested in the 19-year-old forward.
Mathys Tel should push for loan move to take next step in his development
After training regularly with the first team for the last two seasons, Mathys Tel needs to play regularly at the senior level to continue his development. Unless there is a big shift in Kompany’s plans for him over the next few weeks, Tel should push for an early loan move in the winter transfer window.
A loan move to a fellow Bundesliga club will be beneficial for Tel and Bayern. The French winger can get more accustomed to the Bundesliga by playing regularly.
Will Manchester United become an option for Mathys Tel?
Manchester United had talks with Mathys Tel during the second half of last season. The Bavarian club moved quickly and secured the future of the French winger. With the Red Devils reportedly looking for loan moves in January, a move to Old Trafford could become an option for Mathys Tel.
The Premier League club may look for an option to buy in a loan deal. However, Bayern consider Tel part of their long-term plans. They are expected to sanction only a loan deal in January.
Tel should look to sort out a loan move sooner rather than later since Bayern are well stacked in the attack. Bayern will hope a move to Werder Bremen materializes since it is the most attractive proposition from a league and development point of view.
