Bayern Munich: Manchester United make first contact for Mathys Tel
Bayern Munich chiefs are expecting an upheaval in the squad during the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club will look to rejuvenate the first team with quality additions that can help them enjoy sustained success on the pitch. Bayern are also expected to make tough decisions when it comes to the future of senior players.
The record Bundesliga champions remain keen on keeping the quality young players in the squad. However, some of these young players will attract interest from clubs across Europe. Mathys Tel is one such player in Bayern’s squad who will be subject to interest from several clubs in the summer. One Premier League giant has already initiated the process to explore a summer transfer for Tel.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Manchester United have made the first contact to explore a move for Tel. The Red Devils are very interested in signing the French striker. Apart from Manchester United, two other English clubs are also showing interest in Tel.
Sky Sports also reports that Tel remains eager to become a key player for Bayern. The French winger will assess his future in the summer if he doesn’t get assurances over game time at Rekordmeister. A loan move is not an option for the French forward. Tel will either stay in Munich or look for a permanent transfer in the summer.
Bild has also confirmed Sky Sports’ report about Manchester United’s interest in Tel. The German newspaper also insists that Mathys Tel is currently focussing on the season with Die Roten before assessing his future at the end of the season.
The 18-year-old forward started the season on fire for Bayern. He was largely used as a substitute by Thomas Tuchel. Tel was making a great impact in limited playing time by scoring big goals for Die Roten. He also scored the winner against Manchester United at Allianz Arena in the Champions League.
Despite scoring regularly in the first quarter of the season, Tuchel believes that Tel is better as an impact sub for Bayern. The French forward is yet to start a Bundesliga game this season. He has accumulated game time of 489 minutes across 26 appearances this season, scoring six goals and chipping in with three assists. (Stats courtesy- Whoscored)
Tel had attracted interest from several clubs last summer. He preferred staying in Munich than going out on loan. The teenager believes training with top players at Sabner Strasse is ideal for him at this stage of his career. Bayern shouldn’t be worried about Manchester United’s interest in Tel for the time being. They need to gradually increase his game time, which will eventually convince him to stay in Munich in the long run.
