Bayern Munich have been scoring goals for fun under Vincent Kompany. The Belgian coach has implemented an attacking style of football that emphasizes dominating the opposition in and out of possession. Kompany’s style of football has helped several Bayern forwards to become more productive in the final third.
While the majority of forwards have excelled under Kompany in the last three months, Mathys Tel has struggled to make a mark for Bayern this season. The French winger is yet to open his account for goals and assists this season.
Tel had to be content with minutes from the bench under Kompany. He has made just six appearances for Bayern this season, and all of them have come from the bench. The teenager has spent only 116 minutes on the pitch this season. While the likes of Eric Dier and Leroy Sane got their first starts against Mainz in DFB Pokal on Wednesday, Tel was again used as an option from the bench. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
Courtesy of the lack of game time for Tel, there is increasing speculation about his immediate future at Bayern. The Bavarian club is reportedly open to sanctioning a loan move for Tel in January, with likes of Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach showing interest in him.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Werder Bremen are now showing the strongest interest in Tel. Bremen are yet to open talks with Bayern, but they are keeping a close eye on the youngster’s situation. While Bayern are ready to loan Tel out in January, the teenager wants to stay in Bavaria for the rest of the season.
Premier League are also interested in Mathys Tel
The update from Plettenberg also reveals that clubs in the Premier League also have Tel on their list of targets for the winter transfer window. The next couple of months will give more clarity on the teams eager to sign Tel for the second half of the season.
Despite a rocky start to the season, Bayern still have Tel as part of their long-term plans. He scored 14 goals for the Bavarian club last season as an impact substitute under Thomas Tuchel. Manchester United showed interest in signing Tel, but Bayern moved swiftly earlier this year to extend Tel’s contract until 2029.
Die Roten would like Mathys Tel to get game time during the second half of the season since Vincent Kompany cannot guarantee him minutes. A loan move in the Bundesliga will benefit Bayern and Tel.
