Bayern Munich: VfB Stuttgart initiate contact to explore move for Joshua Zirkzee
The remaining few weeks of the transfer window will see Bayern Munich working on deals for departures. There are fringe players in the squad looking to seal moves away from Bavaria to get consistent playing time next season.
Joshua Zirkzee is one of the fringe players that is attracting a lot of interest from different clubs across Europe. The Dutch striker is eager to seal a move to Premier League as Fulham is showing concrete interest in him. However, contact has been made by one Bundesliga club with Die Roten early this week to explore a move for him.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, VfB Stuttgart contacted Bayern recently to explore a move for Zirkzee. Stuttgart considers Zirkzee as the ideal replacement for Sasa Kalajdzic. The Austrian striker could end up leaving Stuttgart before the end of the window as he entered the final year of the current deal.
Earlier this summer, one of the German media outlets reported that Bayern could involve Zirkzee in a swap deal to sign Kalajdzic from Stuttgart. However, the Bavarian club eventually cooled interest in the Austrian striker and decided to pursue the signing of Mathys Tel from Rennes.
The report from Sky Sports also confirms that Bayern is looking to get €20 million for Zirkzee. In an ideal scenario, Bayern would like a bidding war for the Dutch forward to get a significant fee. The interest from Premier League will definitely help their cause.
Apart from Stuttgart and Fulham, Ajax has been heavily linked with a move for Zirkzee this summer. However, Ajax’s interest in the player has not materialised into an offer. West Ham United has also been credited with interest in the young striker, while Anderlecht was also reportedly open to signing him permanently.
Joshua Zirkzee is eager to play regularly this season after enjoying a productive loan spell at Anderlecht last season. After the signing of Mathys Tel from Rennes, Zirkzee will find it difficult to get opportunities in Bavaria next season. Since he has only one year left on his contract at Die Roten, a permanent transfer will benefit all parties.

Bayern may also look to add a buy-back or a sell-on clause in the deal due to Zirkzee’s steady development in the last 12 months. The Dutch striker managed to score more than 15 goals across all competitions for Anderlecht last season. Joshua Zirkzee can eventually return to Bavaria for a fixed fee if he continues to enjoy a good scoring rate at his next club.
