Vincent Kompany was fortunate to get the Bayern Munich job after he and Burnley were relegated from the Premier League. It is almost impossible that the same to be the case for Scott Parker if the Clarets end up going down at the end of this season.
Kompany did, of course, win Premier League titles as a player with Manchester City, which Parker did not. Nevertheless, the appointment worked out as the Belgian guided Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season. This was Harry Kane’s first piece of silverware in his career after spending a barren spell at Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane has continued his great form this season, scoring 13 goals in just 10 Bundesliga games this season. He has also scored five goals in four Champions League games. Bayern are top of the Bundesliga and the Champions League, but they may not be able to sustain this if anything happens to Kane.
Kompany will be scratching his head if he were to lose Kane to injury. His only other striking option is Nicolas Jackson, who is on loan from Chelsea. Jackson has scored just one Bundesliga goal this season.
Vincent Kompany desperately needs Harry Kane to stay fit
Bayern do have attacking midfielders and wingers who contribute regularly with goals and assists. However, the likes of Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise will not likely be able to be as prolific as Kane. The German giants no longer have Thomas Müller, as he is now in MLS with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
RB Leipzig are just six points behind Bayern in the Bundesliga, whilst Borussia Dortmund could also be dark horses. Bayer Leverkusen has shown in recent years that Bayern can be toppled. Therefore, Kompany needs to keep looking over his shoulder.
A new striker in January could be needed for Bayern. Also, in the long term, Kane is now 32, and whilst he keeps himself in impeccable condition, he will not be with the German giants forever. It remains to be seen who will be Bayern’s next great striker to follow in the footsteps of Kane and Robert Lewandowski.
Kane is often linked with a return to England, as he is only 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260.
Spurs are a very different club to the one he left, as they have finally won a trophy in the Europa League last season. Also, chairman Daniel Levy has now departed, which could lead to increased investment in their roster.
