Bayern Munich have enjoyed a perfect start to the season, winning all their competitive games until now. They have been specifically impressive in the final third, scoring at a good rate. Serge Gnabry has been one of the in-form forwards for Bayern.

The German winger has been playing behind Harry Kane in the number ten position. Gnabry has managed to chip in with three goals and three assists in six appearances across all competitions. He has certainly cemented his place in the starting XI for the next few weeks.

Gnabry has been linked with a move away from Bavaria over the last two summers. However, the former Werder Bremen winger has rejected approaches from different clubs to stay in Munich. Die Roten didn’t push for his departure in the summer since several senior forwards had already left the club.

The 30-year-old forward has garnered praise from teammates and Vincent Kompany in the last few weeks. He will be available on a free transfer next summer, but Bayern may have other plans for him. While talking to Ran Sport last week (via iMiaSanMia), Max Eberl hinted that Die Roten could open talks with Gnabry for a new deal.

"Serge is an extremely important player for us right now. He's having exceptional games centrally, where he can showcase his cleverness even more. I'll try to see behind closed doors how and when we'll have talks."

Too early to decide on Gnabry’s future at Bayern

There are no doubts about Gnabry being a successful signing for Bayern since arriving from Werder Bremen in 2018. However, his form has dipped in the last three seasons due to injuries. He was no longer the first choice forward in 2024 when Vincent Kompany arrived at the club.

Considering the big wages he is already on, it would not be a wise move for Die Roten to offer him another long-term deal. Moreover, the sample size is too small to think that Gnabry is back to his best. Die Roten should wait until the winter break to initiate contract talks with Gnabry.

Meanwhile, Bayern will monitor other wide players in the transfer market. They will certainly look to sign another winger next summer if Gnabry ends up leaving Bavaria. Die Roten had shown interest in Lyon wing Mallick Fofana. Since he didn’t leave Lyon in the summer, Bayern may come back for him next summer.

From Gnabry’s perspective, he needs to keep doing what he has done in the first five weeks of the season. Maintaining consistency in performances will help him to secure his future at Bayern and also cement a place in Germany’s squad for the World Cup 2026.
