Max Eberl hints at significant changes at Bayern Munich in summer
The outcome of the Bundesliga title race is likely to be confirmed next weekend. After Bayern Munich’s defeat against Heidenheim on Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen need a win next weekend to seal the title. Bayern Munich fell 16 points behind Leverkusen after the defeat against Heidenheim.
The manner of defeat against Heidenheim once again highlighted Bayern’s flaws at both ends of the pitch. Most importantly, it showed Die Roten’s poor habit of capitulating when things are not going their way. Bayern conceded three goals against Heidenheim after taking a two-goal lead.
The Bavarian club has capitulated in several games across this Bundesliga campaign. The club hierarchy has been concerned by the nature of defeats. They want to bring hunger back into the squad by bringing several new faces to the club.
Bayern chiefs are reportedly planning to make several tough decisions in the summer. The reports of a squad upheaval were indirectly confirmed by Max Eberl after Die Roten’s defeat against Heidenheim. While talking to Sky Sports in Germany, Eberl admitted that several changes are needed in the summer.
""I think a lot of things need to be changed.""
- Max Eberl
Eberl and Christoph Freund have been holding contract talks with key players in the last couple of months. They successfully negotiated a new contract for Mathys Tel. The Bavarian club had given Alphonso Davies an ultimatum for a new deal. Davies is likely to leave Bayern in the summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
Bayern also have a decision to make regarding the future of Joshua Kimmich. The German midfielder has 15 months left on his contract. The Bavarian club is reportedly open to listening to offers for Kimmich in the summer. The German midfielder has been heavily linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the last six months.
Eberl has also been tight-lipped about the futures of Kimmich and Goretzka. The two German midfielders are expected to hold concrete talks with the club hierarchy at the end of the season.
Leroy Sane’s contract situation is also on Eberl’s agenda for the next couple of months. The future of Serge Gnabry is also uncertain due to his inconsistent performances since signing the last new deal, while Die Roten are also going to make changes in the defensive department over the summer. The arrival of the new coach will also have a big say on the squad overhaul. Bayern are hoping to have a deal in place for the new head coach by the end of April.
