After a disappointing season in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich are set to make massive changes to the squad in the summer. The club chiefs believe that an upheaval is needed to bring back the hunger in the squad. They will make tough decisions when the transfer window opens in June.
Max Eberl and Christoph Freund will work in tandem to strengthen the squad in the summer. They are currently looking to sort out the coaching position since Thomas Tuchel will depart at the end of the season.
Bayern are also holding contract talks with several players who are entering the final year of their contracts. Alphonso Davies recently had talks with the club over a new deal. Bayern have offered him a final contract offer with a timeframe to make the decision. It does look like Davies will leave Bavaria in the summer.
Apart from Davies, there are doubts over the future of Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich. The German midfield duo have been heavily linked with a move away from Bavaria. While talking to Sky Sports this week, Eberl remained tight-lipped about Goretzka’s future at the club. He believes that the new coach will have a big say on the future of several players.
""Leon is a top player. I value him extremely - including his physique and his style. Accordingly, Leon is an important part of FC Bayern. But the coach decides the squad planning. It's a fact that Leon is a German international, can play and has played an important role at FC Bayern.""Max Eberl
Goretzka has been recently linked with Juventus. The German midfielder was subject to interest from several clubs last summer, but he decided to stay in Munich. Goretzka remains keen to play for Bayern next season. It remains to be seen if the new coach and Bayern have the same plan for him.
Eberl also confirmed initial talks with Kimmich have taken place. The German international wants to know who will be the next coach before making a final decision. There has been significant speculation around Kimmich’s future throughout the season. Bayern are reportedly open to listening to offers for him in the summer.
Max Eberl also revealed that talks with Leroy Sane will soon take place. The Bavarian club wants to keep Sane despite his poor form in the Ruckrunde. Sane is also open to staying in Munich. He feels settled at the club and sees no reason to leave in the summer.
Bayern will look to extend Jamal Musiala’s contract in the summer. Eberl believes that Musiala is going to be the face of the club for a long time. The young midfielder is currently enjoying the form of his life. Eberl and Freund will look to get all contract talks sorted by the time pre-season begins in July.
