Bayern Munich have received a huge boost in their hopes of keeping Joshua Kimmich at the club, with the midfielder hinting that he would be open to a contract extension with the club.

The current contract of Joshua Kimmich is set to expire at the end of the season, and it has been reported in recent days that Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona are interested in signing him on a free transfer next summer. But the newly appointed Germany captain has hinted that his future could well lie at FC Bayern.

Joshua Kimmich comments on his Bayern Munich future

Following Bayern Munich's 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel, Kimmich was asked to comment on Max Eberl's pre-game comments. The Bayern boss had stated that he would like Kimmich to be one of the team's core players in the coming years. This is what the 29 year old had to say in response (via Sky Sport).

"Generally speaking, it's always nice to hear when the club is convinced of you and the backing is there. I'm enjoying that at the moment. At the moment, it's very, very important for us to win games. That's the most important thing for us. That helps each individual in their development, to be a face or not to be a face."

When asked if he is ready to be one of the faces at the club, Kimmich responded, "Yes, I'm always available."

Barcelona are not the only team interested in signing Kimmich, with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain among the other clubs thought to be in the race. For a while it appeared that the versatile midfielder's future might lie away from FC Bayern. But now it appears that the two parties will agree to a contract extension in the coming weeks.

Joshua Kimmich has played from the start in all four of Bayern Munich's games so far this season. He is closing in on 400 appearances for the club across all competitions.
