Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona have set their sights on signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who will be out of contract at the end of the season.
The future of Joshua Kimmich was uncertain all summer long, before it was decided that the midfielder would stay on at Bayern Munich. While the 29 year old has established himself as a crucial player already under Vincent Kompany, FC Barcelona view him as a transfer target for next summer.
Could Bayern Munich star join FC Barcelona?
This is being claimed by Mundo Deportivo, and the report adds that Barcelona also have interest in signing Bayern Munich target Jonathan Tah, who will also be a free agent at the end of the season. Hansi Flick's side views the Germany duo as potential replacements for Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong.
Bayern Munich would undoubtedly like to keep Kimmich at the club beyond the end of the season, but it remains to be seen what the newly appointed Germany captain's plans are. Kimmich has made a total of 393 appearances for Bayern since joining the club from VfB Stuttgart in 2015.
Joshua Kimmich was heavily linked with a move away from Bayern Munich in the recently concluded summer transfer window. It was claimed that a contract extension for him was increasingly unlikely, and Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City were credited with an interest in his signature.
However, things have changed in recent weeks. And Kimmich stated last month that he is not ruling out a contract extension at Bayern. Whether the prospect of a reunion with former Bayern and Germany head coach Hansi Flick would change his mind is currently uncertain.
Flick will welcome Bayern Munich and Kimmich to the Camp Nou next month with the two sides set to square off during the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.
