It has been a turbulent Ruckrunde for Bayern Munich and Leroy Sane. The Bavarian club has lost ground in the Bundesliga title race against Bayer Leverkusen, while Sane has struggled to replicate his form from the first half of the season.

In terms of numbers, Sane has done well this season. However, that doesn’t give the entire picture of his form across the campaign. He is leading the Bundesliga assists chart for the campaign with 11 assists, but only three have come in 2024. The German winger is yet to score in the second half of the season.

The consistent performances during the first half of the season earned Sane plaudits from fans and former players. He formed a strong partnership with Harry Kane in the final third. Things have not been smooth sailing in 2024, as Sane has struggled in the final third to score and assist. Despite the dip in form, Bayern still rates Sane highly and wants to secure his future.

According to AZ, Bayern remains keen on extending Sane’s contract. The Bavarian club has held preliminary talks with the German winger. There is still a long way to go regarding completing the negotiations with Sane. His current deal will expire at the end of the next season.

Sane is also open to staying in Munich. The German international feels settled at Bayern. He reportedly rejected interest from FC Barcelona last summer to stay in Bavaria. With both parties open to extending the contract, it is just a matter of negotiations over the salary and other minute details.

The former Schalke forward is one of the highest earners at Bayern. The Bavarian club will have to find an agreement on salary for a new deal that will not disrupt their wage bill.

In an ideal scenario, Bayern reached an agreement with Sane before the end of the season. The Bavarian club will avoid transfer speculation in the summer, while Sane can firmly focus on the Euros without worrying about his future at Die Roten.

Sane will look to end the campaign strongly after getting a good break in the last two weeks. The 28-year-old winger was not part of the German squad during the international break since he was serving a suspension after receiving a red card against Austria in November. The international break also allowed Sane to completely recover from a minor injury that has been troubling in the last few months.
