Bayern Munich have completed the sales of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, with the duo joining Manchester United for a combined fee of 70 million euros.
After two seasons at Bayern Munich, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have both joined Manchester United, where they will be reunited with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. The defensive duo will hope for a fresh start in the English Premier League after falling out of favor at Bayern.
Bayern Munich's transfer plans for the rest of the window still uncertain
Mazraoui has signed a four year contract with Manchester United, with de Ligt putting pen to paper on a five year deal. Bayern Munich will earn a fee in the region of 70 million euros from the sale of the duo - a fee they could use to bolster their roster before the transfer window closes.
"As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such an historic club," de Ligt said about his decision to join Manchester United.
"It’s an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I cannot wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt. I know that I’m joining the club at an exciting time; everyone I’ve spoken to has the same ambition for us to win trophies together," Mazraoui said on his transfer.
Bayern decided to sell the duo due to the large number of defensive options in their roster. Both players were free to leave the club, and Manchester United made the decision to sign them.
It remains to be seen if Bayern Munich will make further signings before the transfer window closes. The Bavarians have been heavily linked with a move for Jonathan Tah in recent months, although reports have claimed that the transfer is off. Bayern have also been rejected by Désiré Doué, who is set to join PSG.
