Bayern Munich have finally found a big breakthrough in raising funds through departures. The Bavarian club has been working on deals to sell players in the last few weeks, which will help make space for the new arrivals. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are one step away from leaving Bayern.

According to The Athletic, Bayern have agreed a fee with Manchester United for Matthijs de Ligt. The Bavarian club will receive a fee worth €45 million fixed with €5 million in add-ons. The Dutch defender has already agreed a contract with Manchester United. He is expected to have his medical to complete the transfer in the next few days.

The Athletic has also reported an agreement between Bayern and Manchester United for Noussair Mazraoui. The Moroccan defender will join the Red Devils for €15 million fixed with €5 million in add-ons. Mazraoui’s signing depends on the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United. The English full-back is close to completing a move to West Ham United.

Sky Sports in Germany has also confirmed the report from the Athletic. Since Bayern have agreed deals for both defenders, they are unlikely to feature in the game against Tottenham Hotspur later today. The remaining formalities of the two transfers will be completed early next week.

Disappointing departures but necessary sales for Bayern Munich

Matthijs de Ligt’s departure from Bayern is disappointing for the Bavarian faithful. He has been Die Roten’s best defender for most of the last two seasons. After a difficult start to life under Thomas Tuchel, De Ligt came back strongly in Ruckrunde last season and started the majority of the games.

De Ligt was considered part of Bayern’s long-term plans and future leader when he was signed from Juventus in 2022. Unfortunately, Bayern need to sell him this summer to trim the wage bill and make space for new signings. The Bavarian club is making a loss on the Dutch defender since they paid close to €67 million for him in 2022.

On the other hand, Mazraoui’s departure makes sense for all parties. The Moroccan defender couldn’t cement a place in the starting XI since arriving from Ajax on a free transfer in 2022. The Bavarian club has two solid right-back options in Sacha Boey and Josip Stanisic, making Mazraoui surplus to their requirements. Bayern are making a decent profit on Mazraoui.

The departures of De Ligt and Mazraoui will help Bayern to seal the signings of Jonathan Tah and Désiré Doué. Tah has already agreed personal terms with Bayern, while Doué will soon make a decision regarding his future after Rennes received bids from PSG and Bayern.
