Contract extensions remain the agenda for Bayern Munich chiefs during the winter transfer window. The Bavarian club seems to have got the first set of extensions out of the way, as reports from Germany on Sunday about the future of two senior players are positive.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Serge Gnabry and Konrad Laimer are close to signing new contracts at Bayern. Both players have excelled for Die Roten this season and are keen to extend their stay in Munich.

Gnabry has been in fine form for Bayern this season. He has helped in filling the number ten void after Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury at the Club World Cup in the summer. The German winger has rejected moves in the past two summer transfer windows. His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old winger was keen on extending his stay at Bayern. Gnabry has held productive talks with the club. The German forward is reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and sign a shorter contract to ensure he remains in Munich next season. He is expected to sign a contract until 2028. It was a matter of when rather than if Gnabry signs a new deal once Bayern expressed interest in retaining him beyond the current season.

Laimer rewarded with new deal for consistency

Konrad Laimer is getting rewarded for his consistent performances over the last 18 months. The Austrian midfielder’s current deal expires in 2027. Bayern have moved quickly to secure his future.

Laimer has excelled in the full-back position under Kompany. He is currently the first choice right-back for the Belgian head coach. The 28-year-old has also done a fine job when he has been told to play in the left-back position. He was recently awarded Austrian player of the year for his consistent performance at the club and country level during 2025.

On numerous occasions, the former RB Leipzig midfielder has publicly spoken about his desire to stay at Bayern in the long run. It was just a matter of thrashing out the details about the new deal since Bayern were happy with Laimer’s performances. Sky Sports has reported that Laimer will likely sign a new two-year contract, which will ensure he will stay at least until 2029.

After sorting the contracts of Laimer and Gnabry, Bayern will try to reach an agreement with Dayot Upamecano in the coming weeks. The French defender’s current deal expires at the end of the season.
