Bayern Munich enjoyed a terrific Hinrunde. They are unbeaten in the Bundesliga and have suffered only one defeat since the start of the season. Bayern have booked a place in the quarter-final of the DFB Pokal. The Bavarian club is also on track to directly qualify for the round of 16 in the Champions League.

The strong run of results has been due to the consistent performances of several players. Konrad Laimer has been one of the star performers for Die Roten during the first half of the season. The Austrian has excelled in the full-back position for Bayern. His versatility has been a big help for Vincent Kompany during the injury crisis, as he is equally good in both full-back positions.

Laimer has been equally consistent for Austria, helping the national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Courtesy of his good form for Bayern and the national team, he has been awarded Austria’s player of the year in 2025.

The 28-year-old is delighted with the recognition shown for his performances for club and country. Austria’s head coach, Ralf Rangnick, hailed Laimer’s work ethic and ability to excel in the full-back position when his primary position is in the center of the park.

Laimer arrived at Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2023. He was signed to strengthen the midfield. However, Vincent Kompany has used him in the full-back position over the last 18 months. He is currently the first choice right-back for Die Roten. His link-up play with Michael Olise makes Bayern threatening in the final third. The Austrian is also aggressive with his pressing, making him a great fit for Kompany’s style of football.

Laimer reiterates desire to stay at Bayern

Bayern chiefs and fans are also pleased with the way Laimer has performed over the last couple of seasons. The club hierarchy is open to offering a new deal to the Austrian midfielder.

Laimer also has similar feelings about a new contract. While speaking to Austrian outlet APA (via iMiaSanMia), Laimer admitted that he is content with life at Bayern and feels excited about what the future holds at the club. It does look like it will be a matter of time before Laimer ends up signing a new deal in Munich.

Laimer got extra rest before the final game of the year, as he was suspended for the clash against Heidenheim. Considering how relentless he is with and without the ball, the winter break will be a good time for him to recharge and gear up for the crucial second half of the season.
