The attacking players at Bayern Munich have garnered headlines this season for the right reasons. Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise have been consistent with their output, helping Bayern win 12 games in a row since the start of the campaign in August.

There has been a significant contribution from defenders and midfielders in keeping Die Roten solid defensively and helping dominate teams. Konrad Laimer is one such player in the squad who perfectly epitomises the intensity Vincent Kompany wants to see from his team in and out of possession.

The Austrian midfielder has seamlessly adapted to both full-back positions under Kompany. He has largely been used in the right-back position under Kompany in the last 18 months. However, the recent injury crisis in the left-back department has forced Kompany to use Laimer on the left side of the back four. The Austrian has not disappointed his head coach and delivered top performances in both full-back positions.

Laimer was exceptional in the 4-0 win against Club Brugge at Allianz Arena on matchday three of the Champions League. He worked hard at both ends of the pitch at Allianz, chipping in with two assists. While talking to Sky Sports in Germany after the game, Laimer opened the doors to a contract extension at Bayern.

" I’m open to anything! I feel very comfortable here."

The former RB Leipzig midfielder has a contract until 2027. Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, also told the media on Wednesday that the club considers Laimer as part of their long-term plans.

Since Laimer is content with life in Bavaria, Bayern should look to sort out a new deal in the summer. The player’s eagerness to stay in Munich should ensure that negotiations for a new contract are straightforward.

Laimer has been fantastic signing for Bayern Munich

Bayern signed Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig in 2023 on a free transfer. In just over two seasons, Laimer has made 101 appearances for Bayern across all competitions. He has scored five times and assisted 13 goals in the Bavarian colours.

The Austrian’s primary position is in the center of the park, but Kompany has been using him in full-back positions. Laimer presses aggressively and can work tirelessly out of possession. The 28-year-old has steadily improved on the ball, making him a priceless player to have in the squad.

Laimer is every coach’s dream player to have in the squad. He can play across multiple positions at a very high level. His tactical flexibility helps the coach to use him in different systems. It is a no-brainer for Bayern to extend his contract for a couple of years.
