The transfer window opens later this week. Several clubs are expected to invest in order to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season. Things are expected to be quiet at Bayern Munich in terms of incoming transfers, as the club's chiefs are content with the current squad.

Bayern will be focusing on contract extensions of senior players during January. They have reportedly found a breakthrough in talks with Serge Gnabry and Konrad Laimer. Both players are expected to sign their new deals in the coming days.

Die Roten are also working hard on reaching an agreement with Dayot Upamecano regarding a new contract. The French center-back has entered the final six months of his contract. He can talk to interested clubs during January regarding a free transfer in the summer. Bayern chiefs are cautiously optimistic about agreeing terms with Upamecano for a new long-term deal.

While there is no scope for incomings during January, Bayern’s director of Sport, Max Eberl, told Sport1 (via iMiaSanMia) that there are chances of outgoings since fringe players may look for a transfer to get consistent game time.

"There could always be a player who is perhaps a little bit less satisfied and who, when the injured players return, says: I want to do something different"

Sacha Boey is prime candidate for departure at Bayern in January

As things stand, Sacha Boey will be the only departure from Bayern during the winter transfer window. The French full-back has struggled for game time during the first half of the season. He got decent game time in the first half of Hinrunde when Josip Stanisic and Raphael Guerreiro were on the sidelines due to injuries. Since their return and the good form of Konrad Laimer, Boey has struggled to get minutes on the pitch.

It has been a poor transfer for Bayern. They made Boey their most expensive winter recruit at the start of January. However, Boey couldn’t show his quality over an extended period at Bayern due to injuries and poor form.

Crystal Palace are showing concrete interest, while Galatasaray are also reportedly open to bringing Boey back to Turkey. Marseille had shown interest in the French full-back during the summer transfer window. It remains to be seen if the Ligue 1 club will reignite their pursuit of Boey in January. Die Roten may not look for a replacement for Boey since they are well covered in the full-back positions.

Apart from Boey, Bayern are unlikely to part ways with any other senior player in the squad. Vincent Kompany needs a bigger squad to compete on all fronts.
