Right-back has become a conundrum position for Bayern Munich. The reports in Germany had insisted that German Champions will be looking to add more quality to this position during the summer transfer window.

Norwich City defender Max Aarons had emerged as a top candidate for this position in the German media. However, the latest update from SportBild’s Christian Falk suggests that Rekordmeister has been priced out from a move for Aarons. He confirmed on Friday that Die Roten will not be making a bid for the English defender.

Sky Sports in England had also reported Bayern’s interest this week. The same report insisted that Everton is also keen on signing the English defender. Manchester United is another English club that is also a threat to Die Roten if they want to sign Aarons. Sky reported that Norwich is looking for a fee excess of £30 million for the young full-back.

The mentioned fee will be too much for Rekordmeister in a summer window where they are looking to spend carefully due to the negative impact on the finances of the club due to the pandemic. Spending such a huge sum on a backup right-back will not make sense.

More from Bayern Strikes

Benjamin Pavard was nailed on first-choice right-back for Rekordmeister this season. The Frenchman enjoyed a terrific debut season in this position before getting injured during the knockout rounds of the Champions League in Lisbon. He returned before the start of the new season but hasn’t been reliable in this position like he was last season.

The World Champions signed Bouna Sarr from Marseille during the summer transfer window to provide competition to Pavard. However, Sarr has failed to achieve this target as he has been inconsistent and injury-prone during his debut season. The reports in Germany suggested that Bayern is already contemplating Sarr’s long-term future at the club.

As things stand, the competition for Aarons will mean that Die Roten will have to look at somewhere else if they want to sign a right-back. Moreover, they will also have to find a way of parting ways with Sarr to make space for a new defender in the squad.

The German Champions may prioritize other positions in summer instead of a right-back since funds are unlikely to be raised from departures after the serious injury to Corentin Tolisso. Die Roten has already committed a lot of money to the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig. The arrival of a new right-back may have to wait for one more season.
