French Bayern stars book place in Nations League playoffs

France had a catastrophic start to the international break as they suffered 2-0 defeat against Finland. All the French players from Bayern were rested for this game.  Tolisso suffered a minor injury, so he didn’t make a single appearance for France during the international break. He returned to Sabner Strasse last weekend.

In the crucial UEFA Nations League game against Portugal, Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez, and Kingsley Coman were handed starts. The two defenders showed great defensive awareness to nullify the threat of Portugal’s dangerous wide players. Meanwhile, Coman was a constant threat on the break as he was consistently getting the better of the full-back in front of him.

Pavard and Hernandez started in the final group game of Nations League this week. The two French full-backs played an important role in winning the game against Sweden after going down early in the first half. Pavard scored the important second goal of the game to give France the lead at the end of the first 45 minutes. The French defender showed his impeccable shooting technique to put the ball past Robin Olsen.

Hernandez was also adventurous while going forward against Sweden. He was eventually substituted at the end of the first half, while Coman came on for the final ten minutes. After a tragic start, it was a fruitful break for Bayern’s French players as they helped the team to qualify for the knockout round of the UEFA Nations League.
