Bayern Munich midfielder will return to Sabner Strasse to complete recovery from the injury.

The last few weeks have been unfortunate for Bayern Munich on the injury front. Alphonso Davies suffered a serious knee injury against Eintracht Frankfurt that has ruled him out for at least eight weeks. Just before the international break this month, Joshua Kimmich got injured against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

The international break has given another blow to the German Champions. According to L’Equipe, Corentin Tolisso will be returning to Sabner Strasse due to injury. There has been no confirmation from the German Champions, but Didier Deschamps reportedly told media that the injury is minor.

Die Roten needs Tolisso to be fit for the next few months after Kimmich is not going to return before January. The French midfielder was expected to deputise Kimmich in the center of the park. Tolisso and Leon Goretzka are likely to be the first choice midfield pairing in the absence of Kimmich.

Tolisso has started the season confidently, delivering consistent performances whenever he has been handed starts. He has largely operated as a box to box midfielder in the 4-2-3-1 formation. The biggest highlight for Tolisso this season has been a long-range goal against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

More from Bayern Strikes

Things looked bleak for Tolisso during the second half of last season as he found it difficult to get playing time under Flick. He was linked with top Italian clubs, while Manchester United had reportedly enquired about Tolisso during the winter transfer window.

Tolisso’s situation turned on its head during summer. The French midfielder was going to get more game time after Thiago Alcantara made it clear that he wanted a new challenge. Thiago went on to join Liverpool, allowing Tolisso to stay in Bavaria for at least one more season. Considering the quality of his performances during the first quarter of the season, Tolisso may end up having a longer Bayern career.

If Tolisso is not fit for next weekend’s game, then Flick may have to pair Goretzka with one of Javi Martinez and Marc Roca. Both Spanish midfielders have been training at Sabner Strasse during the international break, so they will be fresh for the Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen.

Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman, Benjamin Pavard, and Lucas Hernandez started for France against Portugal on Saturday. All three players had minor knocks before the game, but they overcame those problems to help France qualify for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Nations League. Die Roten will be hoping that all other players will return healthy from the break.
