Manchester City winger Leroy Sane reportedly remains interested in joining Bayern Munich after failing to join the club in summer.

Bayern Munich were involved in the most long-drawn transfer saga this summer. The German champions had identified Manchester City’s Leroy Sane as the ideal player to improve their attacking options after the departure of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Die Roten registered their interest in Sane at the end of the season. The club chiefs publicly confirmed their interest in the player, but the negotiations for this transfer were not straightforward despite Sane being reportedly unhappy with less gametime under Pep Guardiola.

However, Bayern had to wait until the final month of the transfer window to make a breakthrough in negotiations in this transfer. As soon as it was looking likely that Sane was set to join Bayern, the German international suffered a serious injury. Bayern decided to move on and pursue other transfer targets to improve their options in attacking department.

Bayern Munich are expected to revive their interest in Sane next summer. Reports in Germany last month suggested that Die Roten is set to start negotiating with the German winger’s representatives.

More from Bayern Strikes

The latest report from Sky Sports in Germany insists that Sane remains eager to join Bayern Munich. This report also insists that Manchester City have accepted the fact that Sane is set to move to Bavaria. The English side is lining up a move for Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal to replace Sane.

Man City will have to listen to offers for Sane next summer as his current deal is set to expire in 2021. The contract talks between the two parties have hit an impasse, suggesting that Sane wants to leave the club. This whole scenario will help Bayern in paying a much lesser fee than what City wanted last summer.

Sane will add a new dimension to Bayern’s attack if he eventually seals this move. The German international has been one of the best wingers in Europe in the last two seasons. Under Pep Guardiola, Sane improved his productivity in the final third. His arrival will help in managing the goalscoring burden of Robert Lewandowski.

Uli Hoeness previously hinted that Die Roten might try to sign Sane in the winter market. However, Sane is still recovering from a knee injury. The German winger is expecting to be back in training by February. If he has set his eyes on a move to Bayern, then the English club may prefer negotiating in January than summer to get a better transfer fee.
