Bayern Munich is reportedly closing on the signing of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.
It has been a frustrating summer transfer window for Bayern Munich. Die Roten has not signed a single player this summer. Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez and Jann-Fiete Arp also arrived in Bavaria this summer, but their transfers were agreed before the end of last season.
Bayern desperately needs a winger as they currently have only three pure wingers in the squad. Manchester City’s Leroy Sane was the prime target for this position, but Die Roten received the worst possible news about his injury. The German winger is set to be out of action for six-seven months after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament in last weekend’s game against Liverpool.
Since then, the Bundesliga champions have started working on a deal to bring Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic to Bavaria. The latest update from Italy suggests that it is just a matter of when rather than if Perisic will join Bayern.

According to Sky Sports in Italy, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have agreed to a deal for Perisic. Die Roten will initially sign the former Borussia Dortmund winger for one year loan with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer. This report suggests that the loan fee is €5 million while the transfer fee for next summer will be €20 million.
Sky Sports correspondent Fabrizio Romano has also suggested that Perisic has reached an agreement with the Bundesliga champions. The 30-year-old winger is set to soon travel to Germany for medical as he has been omitted from Inter’s squad that will face Valencia on Sunday.
According to Sport1, Niko Kovac had previously proposed Perisic to Bayern’s board, but the club was not convinced about the player. This report suggests that Uli Hoeness still has doubts about this transfer, but Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wants to fulfill Kovac’s wish as a deal for Sane is looking unlikely now.
This transfer is underwhelming as Perisic is an inconsistent and frustrating forward. However, the nature of this transfer suggests that Bayern sees Perisic as a stop-gap option. The German club might reignite their interest in Sane next summer. Apart from Perisic, Die Roten should try to sign a younger winger to improve the depth in this position. Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech is out of the running for this position as he signed a contract extension with Ajax on Friday.
