Bayern Munich have reportedly taken positive strides to secure the transfer of Leroy Sane from Manchester City.

Bayern Munich’s game against Eintracht Frankfurt was a fitting end to the Bundesliga careers of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Fans of the German giants saw two fine goals scored by the “Robbery” duo in their last league game. There will be a massive void left in the dressing room after the departure of these two veteran forwards in the summer.

The quality of these two players may have diminished on the pitch in recent seasons, but they still remained a potent attacking threat on their day. Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Alphonso Davies are talented wingers, but Bayern still need one more quality addition in offense to move forward. The Bavarians will have to dig deep in their pockets this summer to sign a quality wide player.

English media reported last week that Leroy Sane has emerged as the prime candidate for Bayern to replenish their attacking options. German media is also following this lead and suggesting that the interest from the Bundesliga champions in the former Schalke winger is genuine and gaining steam.

More from Bayern Strikes

According to Kicker, Sane is the main transfer target for Die Roten after the recent severe injury suffered by Callum Hudson-Odoi. Bayern had the chance to sign Sane in 2017 but decided against making a move due to their depth on the wings at that time, but they are now hoping to bring him back to Germany. This report doesn’t give any information on the negotiations regarding a potential transfer, but it fully insists that there is concrete interest from Bayern in the young German.

Kicker‘s report has been backed by Sport 1. The latter media outlet believes Bayern are serious about their interest in Sane and are ready to take advantage of his contract situation at Manchester City. Sane’s contract with the English club expires in 2021, and he has regularly delayed talks over a new contract. Man City might have to cash in this summer in order to get a good transfer fee if he continues to deliberate over a new contract.

The latest update from England regarding this transfer is also promising. On Monday, the Daily Mirror reported that Pep Guardiola is open to the departure of Sane and that there is growing confidence that Bayern will be able to conclude a deal for the Germany international. None of these reports mentioned a potential transfer fee for Sane, but City would surely like to at least double the £37 million fee they paid Schalke in 2016.

Next. Jann-Fiete Arp will leave Hamburg for Bayern Munich in the summer. dark

Uli Hoeness insisted on Saturday that he couldn’t see the club exceeding €80 million for a transfer this summer after the arrival of Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid for a similar fee. Sane is a perfect fit for Bayern, but the German club will have to negotiate smartly to get an out of favor player from Man City for a decent fee.
