Bayern Munich made a brave and tough decision this summer to end contract negotiations with Alphonso Davies. The Canadian full-back was offered an improved deal, but eventually Bayern ended negotiations. Davies has entered the final 12 months of his contract in Munich.

Christoph Freund has not completely closed the door regarding a new deal for Davies. However, it looks like the player has already made a decision regarding his future. According to AS, Real Madrid already has an agreement in place with Davies to join on a free transfer in 2025.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for Davies this summer. The Spanish club had no plans to offer a big fee, which Bayern wanted for the Canadian full-back. They have decided to wait until next summer to sign Davies and extended the contract of Ferland Mendy.

It is the worst possible outcome for Bayern. They will lose a player who is entering the peak of his career. Moreover, Davies remains one of the best left-backs in Europe despite a dip in form during last season. To add insult to injury, Die Roten will not get a fee for a player who can easily fetch €50 million in the current market.

Bayern have lost two key players to Real Madrid in the last decade. They had to sell Toni Kroos for a cut-price deal in 2014. The German midfielder helped Real Madrid win multiple Champions League titles in the last ten years. Bayern also lost David Alaba on a free transfer to Real Madrid in 2021.

Davies will be important player for Bayern under Vincent Kompany

Bayern have no plans to keep Davies on the bench next season after the contract saga. The Canadian full-back will be an important player for Vincent Kompany. The speculation about his future impacted his performances last season, but Davies ended the season strongly. He also found the back of the net against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final at Santiago Bernabeu.

The Bavarian club will hope to see Davies rediscover his form and help them get back to winning trophies next season. Davies has won every possible trophy with Bayern. If the next season will be his last in Munich, the Canadian full-back will look to end it with a flourish.
