Real Madrid agree personal terms with Bayern Munich defender
The summer transfer window is set to be very interesting for Bayern Munich. After announcing Thomas Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season, Bayern are expected to make several changes in the squad during the summer transfer window. Some big players are also expected to leave Bavaria at the end of the season.
With every passing day, it does look like Alphonso Davies will be one of the star players who will leave Die Roten in the summer. The contract negotiations with Davies are turning out to be complex. It does look like Davies already has a club lined up for the summer.
According to The Athletic, Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Davies for a transfer. The Spanish club has an agreement for a possible transfer in the summer when he will have less than 12 months on his contract. They have also an agreement for a free agent deal in 2025 if they fail to sign him in the summer.
There has been a lot of speculation around the future of Davies during the last 12 months. Real Madrid have been laying down the groundwork to sign the Canadian full-back after identifying him as the long-term target for the left-back position.
Davies had reportedly agreed a new deal at Bayern last season when Hasan Salihamidzic was leading the negotiations. The departure of Salihamidzic at the end of the last campaign meant that negotiations had to start all over again. Bayern are yet to find a breakthrough in talks with Davies, with reports in Germany suggesting that wage demands of the defender are a stumbling block in negotiations.
Bayern will make a decision on Davies’ future one way or the other in the summer. Since they are looking to make big changes in the squad, losing a player like Davies on a free transfer is not feasible. Real Madrid are yet to start talks with Bayern regarding a transfer, but things may move quickly at the end of the season.
The record Bundesliga champions are already keeping tabs on possible replacements for Davies. Die Roten have concrete interest in AC Milan full-back Theo Hernandez, while Girona’s Miguel Guiterrez has also been linked with a summer move to Bavaria.
It is a massive shame if Davies ends up leaving Bayern in the summer. Davies has not been in the best form this season, but he remains one of the most exciting full-backs in Europe. With the best years of career ahead of him, losing him to a European rival is a massive blow for Die Roten.
