The German players involved in Euro 2024 reported for fitness tests at Bayern Munich on Monday. Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Manuel Neuer were pictured reporting at Sabner Strasse in the club’s social media updates earlier today.
Bayern will sit down with Kimmich and Sane to discuss their future. Sane’s situation is straightforward. The German winger wants to stay in Munich, and the club wants to extend his contract. However, Kimmich is subject to intense transfer speculation this summer, with Bayern open to parting ways with him. The Bavarian club has been informed about concrete interest in Kimmich from one of their European rivals.
According to Footmercato, Paris Saint-Germain recently contacted Bayern to know the conditions for the potential transfer of Kimmich. The French champions can pull the trigger if they want to sign Kimmich since they are aware of the German midfielder’s salary demands and Die Roten’s asking price.
PSG are thinking about signing another midfielder once they complete the signing of Joao Neves from Benfica. They are expected to seal the deal with Benfica later this week. Kimmich is a strong candidate for the second midfield signing of the summer at the French club.
The French champions reportedly tried to sign Kimmich in January. However, Bayern had no plans to part ways with the German international midway through the season. Kimmich has been tight-lipped about his future in Munich throughout the last six months. He has entered the final 12 months of his contract, which makes this summer a final opportunity for Bayern to get a significant fee for him.
Bayern are open to listening offers for Kimmich since they are looking to make significant changes to the squad. They have already strengthened the midfield by signing Joao Palhinha from Fulham. The Portuguese midfielder will be Vincent Kompany’s first choice number six at Bayern next season, spelling bad news for Kimmich since he prefers playing in front of the defense.
Kimmich will only consider clubs that are ready to win big trophies since he is at the peak of his career. Manchester City reportedly have him on the list of summer transfer targets. A reunion with Pep Guardiola in Manchester will be more appealing for the German midfielder than joining PSG.
It remains to be seen if Bayern will replace Kimmich this summer. There will be clarity about Kimmich’s future in the coming days as he meets the new coach and club chiefs.
