Max Eberl holds talks with Leroy Sane for new deal at Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich started working on long-term squad planning during Ruckrunde. They secured the futures of Mathys Tel and Alexander Nubel. Both players are in Bayern’s long-term vision. Along with extending the contracts of young players, Bayern are also looking to define the futures of senior players in the squad.
Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, and Sven Ulreich signed one-year contract extensions at the end of 2023. Leroy Sane is one of the several senior players in the squad who has just over 12 months left on their contracts. The Bavarian club has taken the first step to tie down Sane on a long-term deal.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Max Eberl held talks with Sane last week over a dinner in Munich. Eberl assured Sane that he remains part of the club’s long-term plans. The contract negotiations with Sane are yet to start, but both parties are optimistic about reaching an agreement.
Sane is interested in extending his stay in Munich. The German winger feels settled at the club. He reportedly rejected interest from FC Barcelona to stay at Bayern. There is interest from England in Sane, but his priority is to stay at Bayern beyond the ongoing campaign.
It has been a mixed campaign for Sane. He was consistent throughout Hinrunde, chipping in with a goal or an assist every game. However, his form nosedived during the second half of the season. Despite a dip in form, Sane has shown in the two Champions League games against Arsenal that he is one of the most potent forwards at Bayern.
With Die Roten reportedly ready to listen to offers for Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, it makes sense to keep a senior winger in Sane. It will be intriguing to see how Bayern handle the financial aspects of Sane’s new contract since he is one of the top earners at the club. Sane will look to get the best deal since it will be the last big contract of his career.
Bayern would like to reach an agreement with Sane before the start of the European championship in the summer. If Die Roten fail to agree terms with the German winger, they risk losing him on a free transfer in 2025.
Apart from Sane, Bayern are expected to hold contract talks with Joshua Kimmich in the coming weeks. The German midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Bavaria throughout the season. The next few weeks will be decisive as Bayern look to press ahead with their plans for the squad overhaul.
