Bayern Munich suffered a blow this week as Jamal Musiala was ruled out for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt due to a hip problem. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder will miss the two games for Germany during the international break. Bayern have not given a definitive return date for Musiala.
The German attacking midfielder has enjoyed a good start to the season under new head coach Vincent Kompany. He is currently first choice number ten at Bayern in Kompany’s 4-2-3-1 system. Musiala’s creativity will be missed on Sunday, but Die Roten have plenty of good options in the attack.
Meanwhile, Bayern chiefs are putting all their efforts into extending Musiala's contract. The 21-year-old has less than two years left on his current deal. Several European clubs are keeping a close eye on the negotiations between Musiala and Bayern.
Die Roten began concrete discussions with Musiala in September. There is still a long way to go in concluding negotiations with a positive outcome for Bayern. While talking to the media on Saturday (via iMiaSanMia), Max Eberl admitted confidence about securing the future of Musiala.
"There was not just one meeting, we're in talks. I'm very confident. Something is happening here and Jamal is noticing that too. He's an exceptional player, and alongside Josh and a few others he should become a face of Bayern. We told the player that too. And now we are looking at how we can reach an agreement. I'm an optimist and I see no reason why he should leave Bayern."Max Eberl, Director of Sport at Bayern
Bayern in a tricky position about Musiala’s contract
Bayern have taken too long to extend Musiala’s contract. They cannot afford to have a negotiation saga and allow Musiala to enter the final year of his deal. A resolution about his future should ideally be reached by the end of 2024.
Musiala is expected to join the list of top earners in the squad if he decides to extend his contract at Bayern. The German attacking midfielder wants a sporting project that can fulfill his individual and collective ambitions. The onus is on Bayern to convince that Munich is the place for Musiala to fulfill his ambitions over the next few years.
The Bavarian faithful will hope Musiala and Bayern come to an agreement sooner rather than later since the German international has the potential to be part of the team’s spine for the next decade.
Bayern chiefs have a lot of work to do regarding contract renewals in the next couple of months. Leroy Sane, Alphonso Davies, and Joshua Kimmich will be free to talk to interested clubs in January and sign a pre-contract agreement. Die Roten want to keep Sane and Kimmich, while the future of Davies is looking uncertain due to concrete interest from Real Madrid. Meanwhile, a decision regarding the futures of Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller will likely come at the end of the season.
