Alphonso Davies is facing an uncertain future at Bayern Munich after entering the final 12 months of his contract. Manchester United have joined the race to sign Davies from Bayern on a free transfer.

According to Give Me Sport in England, Manchester United are considering a move for Davies next summer. The Red Devils want to strengthen the left-back position since Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been troubled with injuries in the last 18 months.

There has been constant speculation about the future of Davies in Munich over the last 12 months. The Canadian full-back has received contract extension offers from Die Roten, but they did not match their financial demands. Max Eberl considered improving the contract offer in the summer, but the club chiefs were reportedly against increasing the previous offer. Bayern had interest in AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez in case Davies left in the summer.

Real Madrid remain frontrunners to sign Davies

Despite interest from Manchester United, Real Madrid are front-runners to sign Davies on a free transfer. The Spanish club has been consistently linked with Davies over the last 18 months. The Los Blancos were expected to make a bid for Davies in the summer, but talks with Bayern never took place.

Real Madrid will reportedly look to seal the deal for Davies in January. The Canadian left-back can negotiate pre-contract agreements with interested clubs during the winter transfer window. Davies can negotiate desired financial terms if there are several clubs showing interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Bayern have not completely ruled out offering a new deal to Davies in the coming months. The Bavarian club wants to get clarity about his future by winter to plan accordingly for the next summer transfer window. Davies remains coy over his long-term future in Munich.

The Canadian defender endured a difficult 2023/24 campaign. The constant speculation about his future certainly affected his performances on the pitch. Vincent Kompany considers Davies a key part of his plans at Bayern this season. It has been a mixed start to the season for Davies, but a couple of good performances last week against Dinamo Zagreb and Werder Bremen should kickstart his campaign.

The next few months will be decisive for Davies’ future at Bayern. If this will be his last season in Munich, the Bavarian faithful will hope to see Davies getting back to his best and helping Bayern to win several trophies.
