A difficult season ended on a bitter note for Bayern Munich when they conceded two late goals against Real Madrid last Wednesday in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals. The Bavarian club still has one more game left in the Bundesliga, but the club chiefs already have an eye on transfer plans to improve the squad that ended this season without a trophy.

Bayern chiefs are planning for a squad overhaul after the underwhelming campaign. They are ready to make tough decisions, which may see senior players leave the club in the summer. Joshua Kimmich is one of the players who is facing uncertainty at Bayern.

The German midfielder has 12 months left on his contract. Die Roten are yet to open concrete talks with Kimmich. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Kimmich’s future at Bayern will not be resolved before the Euros in the summer. The German international is waiting for the Bavarian club's nod regarding contract talks.

Sky also reports that Bayern Munich will hold preliminary talks with Kimmich before he joins the German national team for the Euros. Further talks over his future will take place after the tournament. Kimmich wants to know more about the club’s long-term plans before committing to a new contract since it will be the last big contract of his career.

The German media outlet also reported interest from FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in Kimmich. During the winter transfer window, he was heavily linked with PSG, but Bayern had no plans to part ways with him midway through the season. Manchester City reportedly have Kimmich on their shortlist for the summer transfer window.

Bayern chiefs no longer consider selling Kimmich as an unrealistic idea. They are expected to invest in the midfielder department during the summer. The upcoming summer window will be the last opportunity for Die Roten to get a significant fee for Kimmich.

Kimmich has endured a difficult season in midfield for Bayern. His performances in the last couple of months have improved when Thomas Tuchel moved him into the right-back position. With Tuchel edging closer to staying at Bayern, it will be intriguing to see if Kimmich decides to stay put. He may not play regularly in midfield under the German coach.

The lack of clarity regarding Kimmich entering the summer transfer window is not ideal. He has been a consistent performer for Bayern. Regardless of what happens in the summer, the Bavarian faithful will fondly remember Joshua Kimmich.
