Bayern Munich unaware of agreement between Alphonso Davies and Real Madrid
With three months left in the season, transfer talk is already gathering space amongst big clubs in Europe. Bayern Munich are also expected to be busy in the summer as they are planning an upheaval in the squad. The Bavarian club will have to part ways with a few players willingly and reluctantly in the summer.
The Bavarian faithful received a negative update on the future of Alphonso Davies. Real Madrid reportedly have a verbal agreement in place with Davies for a transfer either in 2024 or 2025. The Canadian left-back has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the last 12 months.
According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Bayern are not aware of an agreement between Davies and Real Madrid. The Spanish club is yet to open talks with Die Roten for a summer transfer. The Canadian defender will enter the final 12 months of the contract at Bayern in the summer.
Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, has been positive about agreeing a new deal with Davies. SportBild is reporting that wage demands from Davies are a real cause of concern for Die Roten. The 23-year-old full-back is looking for €20 million per year to sign a new deal at Bayern.
The Bavarian club is not ready to meet the wage demands of Davies. More talks between both parties are likely to take place in the next three months. If there is no agreement in place by the end of the season, Bayern will have to cash in during the summer transfer window.
Despite having 12 months left on his contract, Bayern should look to get at least €50 million for Davies. He is still young for a full-back, so seeking a big fee should be on the agenda for Bayern. The Bavarian club lost David Alaba and Toni Kroos to Real Madrid in the last decade for peanuts. They cannot afford to make the same mistake with Davies.
Bayern have already identified AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez as one of the candidates to replace Davies in the summer. Die Roten should ideally look for a younger left-back since they have a solid, experienced option in Raphael Guerreiro. Both players can compete for a place in the starting XI from next season.
The Bavarian club will look to initiate talks with left-back targets once it becomes clear that Davies will not be signing a new deal. It does look like a matter of when, not if, Davies will leave Bavaria.
