A difficult season for Bayern Munich ends on Saturday away at Hoffenheim. It will be a busy summer for several Bayern players since Germany will host the European Championship in June. Aleksandar Pavlovic and Leroy Sane have been announced as part of the German squad, but one Bayern player faces disappointment ahead of the complete squad announcement later this week.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Julian Nagelsmann has decided against including Leon Goretzka in the squad for the Euros. The German midfielder has been in fine form over the last couple of months, but Nagelsmann is sticking with midfielders who were called up for the international friendlies against France and Netherlands in March.

It is a blow for Goretzka since he was determined to get back in Germany’s squad after delivering consistent performances for Bayern during March and April. He was one of the best players on the pitch in the two Champions League games against Arsenal. The German international also looked solid in the home leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Goretzka getting rest in the summer before pre-season is the only silver lining for Bayern from Nagelsmann’s decision to omit him from the squad. The German midfielder will have time to contemplate his future in Bavaria as Die Roten plan a squad overhaul in the summer.

Juventus have reportedly shown interest in Goretzka. The German international was not the first-choice midfielder for Thomas Tuchel, but he worked hard to get a considerable amount of game time throughout the season. Goretzka wants to stay in Munich, but it remains to be seen if he will prominently feature in the new coach’s plans at Bayern.

Goretzka will not be short of offers if he decides to leave Bavaria. He can thrive in the Premier League due to his robust physique and qualities out of possession. West Ham United and Manchester United have been previously linked with Goretzka.

Apart from Goretzka, Serge Gnabry will also miss the European Championship. The German winger is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering another hamstring injury during the defeat against Real Madrid. Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Muller are expected to feature in Nagelsmann’s squad.

Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman is working hard at Sabner Strasse to regain fitness for the European Championship. The French winger has been on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury. He is hopeful about playing for France in the Euros. The French federation has sent a fitness coach to Sabner Strasse to monitor Coman’s recovery. He has started training on the grass.
