Atletico Madrid interested in signing Bayern Munich star

Bayern Munich have to work on departures in the coming days to fund the remainder of their transfer targets. The Bavarian club is ready to part ways with several senior players in the squad, but they are yet to receive concrete offers. Leon Goretzka is one of the senior players at Bayern who could leave Munich this summer.

The German midfielder is determined to play for Bayern next season. However, he is finally attracting interest from top European clubs. According to Bild, Atletico Madrid are interested in Leon Goretzka and has him on the list of summer transfer targets. It remains to be seen if Goretzka is receptive to joining the La Liga side.

SZ in Germany (via iMiaSanMia) also reported Atletico Madrid and Napoli are interested in Leon Goretzka. Bayern are yet to receive any bids for the German midfielder. His contract with the Bavarian club expires in 2026.

Atletico Madrid have stepped up their efforts to sign Connor Gallagher from Chelsea on Tuesday. It is unclear if Goretzka is a backup option to the England international for the midfield signing at the Spanish club.

Goretzka is not guaranteed a place in the starting XI at Bayern next season. Joao Palhinha is expected to be Bayern’s first-choice defensive midfielder after arriving from Fulham in June. Aleksandar Pavlovic will likely play in the number eight position consistently next season after a stellar debut campaign.

The 29-year-old midfielder is one of the top earners at Bayern. He was not the first-choice midfield option under Thomas Tuchel. Goretzka fared well in the limited opportunities he got last season, but Die Roten clearly wants to move ahead without him.

With no assurances over gametime at Bayern next season, a move away from Bavaria will be better suited for Goretzka. He needs to play regularly to break into the German squad under Julian Nagelsmann. Goretzka was not part of the German squad for the Euro 2024.

The club chiefs and Kompany are expected to hold talks with Goretzka in the coming days to give him clarity about his role in the squad. There will be more clarity on his future before the first competitive game of the season.
