Bayern Munich eager to part ways with Leon Goretzka
Bayern Munich are making wholesale changes in the squad this summer. They are working on several deals to strengthen the squad. Bayern are open to big-name departures this summer since they must balance the books and trim the wage bill.
Leon Goretzka is one of the several senior players on the list of departures at Die Roten. According to TZ, Goretzka’s departure is one of the priorities for Bayern this summer. However, the Bavarian club is struggling to initiate the departure since no clubs have shown concrete interest in Goretzka until now.
Juventus had been linked with a move for Goretzka during last season, but the Italian club strengthened their midfield by signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa. Manchester United and West Ham United wanted Goretzka in the past, but the English clubs are yet to show interest in the German international this summer.
Goretzka is in no rush to leave Bayern this summer. The German midfielder is determined to fight for a place in the starting XI next season. The 28-year-old is calm about his situation in Munich since he has two years left on his current deal.
The German international is one of the top earners in the squad. Bayern want to make space for new signings in the squad by parting ways with top earners. Die Roten will not actively look to push Goretzka out of the club, but they will not give assurances over game time next season. The lack of assurances over playing time may force Goretzka to weigh up his options.
Bayern are actively pursuing a deal for Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese will become Die Roten’s first-choice defensive midfielder next season. Aleksandar Pavlovic, Konrad Laimer, and Raphael Guerreiro are the options for Die Roten in the box-to-box midfield position. Jamal Musiala can also slot in the number eight position. Rekordmeister are also trying to sign Xavi Simons from PSG. The Dutch attacking midfielder can also play as a number eight if needed.
Since several players will be ahead of him in the pecking order, Goretzka will struggle to get playing time. He needs regular game time next season to get back in the German national team. Moreover, an unhappy high-profile player can cause unrest in the dressing room.
Goretzka is a formidable midfield player, but his time at Bayern is coming to an end. A transfer this summer will benefit all parties. The German midfielder will benefit from a move to the Premier League since the physical nature of the game in England will suit his playing attributes.
