This winter transfer market appears to be a quiet one for Bayern Munich at the arrival terminal. However, Die Roten will look to trim the squad by parting ways with fringe players who are struggling to get game time under Vincent Kompany.
Sacha Boey is one of the players who could be on his way out from Bayern during the winter transfer window. The French defender is way behind in the pecking order for both full-back positions.
While talking to the media on Tuesday (via iMiaSanMia), Director of Sport Max Eberl confirmed that Sacha Boey may be on the way out of the Allianz Arena this January.
"With Hiroki and Phonzy back, we have a lot of full-backs with very high quality. So things could be difficult for one or another. And then it would probably make sense to think about a change. It's still January 6th, there's still time before the end of the transfer window"Max Eber
Boey has not suited up for Bayern Munich since November 1, when he had a 16-minute cameo in the victory against Bayer Leverkusen. His last start for Bayern was back in mid-October against Borussia Monchengladbach. The 25-year-old was pulled at halftime in this game to bolster the attack.
Having said that, Sacha Boey did have a decent start to the season. He racked up six starts and helped the team win in every game he featured in. With Hiroki Ito and Alphonso Davies returning from injury, the minutes started to diminish for the Frenchman.
Bayern is now set at both flanks, with the aforementioned duos on the left and Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic rotating on the right, who can complement Vincent Kompany's system well enough.
Unfortunately, Sacha Boey has always been a tactical misfit in Bayern's system. He seemed awkward technically going forward and linking up with teammates in the final thirds.
Parting ways will surely be the most beneficial option for both parties, as Boey will find a destination where he can play more regularly, and Bayern can free up some space in the bloated salary book.
Bayern were open to listening offers for Boey in the last two transfer windows
The relationship between Sacha Boey and Bayern Munich was supposed to end in either of the last two transfer periods. Yet, injuries to key players meant Vincent Kompany kept him as he needed additional depth, especially at a physically demanding position in the fullback.
Crystal Palace is still among the biggest suitors for the services of the former Galatasaray star. Oliver Glasner is interested in providing competition at right wing-back for Daniel Munoz.
Bayern board will preferably find a younger talent as a future replacement for Konrad Laimer. Givairo Read is among the names being frequently mentioned.
