Bayern Munich are planning to strengthen the defense in the next couple of transfer windows. It is no secret that Bayern are looking at several central defenders, as there is uncertainty around the futures of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.
Apart from center-backs, Bayern are also looking at young full-backs. In the last few days, Bayern have been concretely linked with Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read.
According to the latest update from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern have already held talks with Read's representatives. Feyenoord have been made aware of the talks between Die Roten and the young defender.
Read has been tight-lipped about Bayern’s interest after being asked in a presser. While talking to the media (via iMiaSanMia_GER), Read insisted that he remains focused on Feyenoord and speculation doesn’t distract him.
Bayern face competition from Premier League for Read
De Telegraaf in the Netherlands is reporting that Premier League giants- Arsenal and Manchester City are also interested in signing Read. Bayern are looking to take a march on their European rivals by opening talks with the youngster’s representatives. Feyenoord will look to get a significant fee since Read has four years left on his contract.
Konrad Laimer is currently the undisputed first-choice right-back for Bayern. The Austrian midfielder has seamlessly adapted to this position under Vincent Kompany. He has improved significantly in the final third since moving to this position. Bayern are expected to open contract talks with the former RB Leipzig full-back.
Read will come in as a deputy for Laimer. Sacha Boey has been inconsistent and struggled with injuries. The French full-back has done well for Bayern in the last few weeks, but he remains a candidate for a sale next summer. Guerreiro provides cover in both full-back positions, but he is likely to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The Dutch full back may not get consistent game time in his first season at Bayern due to the presence of Laimer. However, Die Roten are considering him a long-term option for this role. It remains to be seen if Read is ready to sacrifice a big chunk of game time to seal a move to Bavaria. Bayern have made their move. Everything now depends on how they convince the youngster about their plans for him in the short and long-term.
Meanwhile, Bayern are also expected to step up talks with Crystal Palace central defender Marc Guehi in the winter transfer window. The English defender has already spoken to Die Roten as he has decided to leave Palace on a free transfer in the summer.
