Max Eberl has commented on Leroy Sané's importance to Bayern Munich amid his lack of playing time so far this season.

With Leroy Sané's contract expiring at the end of the season, several clubs from the English Premier League are said to be eyeing his signature, including Manchester United and Newcastle United. But the winger still has an important role to play for Bayern Munich, according to Max Eberl.

"Leroy is making a good impression, he's trying to step on the gas in training. Michael Olise is just a step ahead in that position at the moment. But Leroy is pushing, we will still need him," Max Eberl told BILD.

Leroy Sané scored his first Bundesliga goal in 12 months on Saturday

Sané has only been used off the bench so far this season, having missed the majority of pre-season due to injury. The 28 year old finally ended his year-long wait to score a goal in the Bundesliga this past weekend as he found the back of the net in the 5-0 win over VfL Bochum.

After showing his class with a beautifully taken goal against Bochum, Sané will hope to play from the start on Wednesday as Bayern Munich take on Mainz 05 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. And a strong performance in Mainz would go a long way in helping him convince Vincent Kompany that he deserves more playing time.

Leroy Sané's future beyond the end of the season also remains uncertain, with Bayern wanting him to take a pay cut to extend his contract. And his performances on the pitch will likely dictate what the future holds for him.
