Joshua Kimmich was left annoyed with Bayern Munich's mistakes that proved to be very costly as they were handed a 4-1 defeat by FC Barcelona.

Bayern Munich's woes in the Champions League continued on Wednesday evening as they suffered a shock 4-1 defeat at the hands of FC Barcelona, with Raphinha leading the way by scoring a hat-trick. Robert Lewandowski was also on target against his former club, as Bayern were made to rue their defensive lapses.

Joshua Kimmich reflects on 4-1 defeat to FC Barcelona

After the game, Joshua Kimmich pulled no punches in his assessment of the team's performance. Although he did say that the 4-1 scoreline somewhat flattered FC Barcelona. "It was hara-kiri at times in the way we played," Kimmich told DAZN.

"We got off to a bad start but then managed to equalize. I thought we were in control after 1-1. But then we conceded a second, which for me was a foul. Then we lost a bit of patience and became a bit sloppy. We tried to play too many balls behind the defense. As a result, we lost a bit of momentum and control."

"Overall, it felt like we weren't clean enough with the ball. We made too many mistakes. That's how the goals came about. I don't think 4-1 overall was a fair result given the course of the game, but it was still a deserved defeat."

Bayern Munich employed a very high-line and it took less than a minute for Barcelona to take advantage, with Raphinha finding the back of the net. While Harry Kane did manage to bring Bayern back on level terms, Barcelona restored their lead through Lewandowski.

Raphinha then scored again on the stroke of half-time and extinguished any hope of a Bayern comeback at the end of another swift Barcelona counter-attack in the second-half.

Bayern Munich have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the UEFA Champions League and have fallen to 23rd place in the league phase standings. Next up for Vincent Kompany's side in the CL is a home game against SL Benfica, which undoubtedly will be a must-win one.
