Bayern Munich find themselves in 23rd place in the UEFA Champions League standings after suffering a sobering 4-1 defeat to FC Barcelona.

After being beaten by Aston Villa on matchday two, Bayern Munich were handed another reality check on Wednesday evening as they were handed a 4-1 defeat by FC Barcelona. Vincent Kompany's side played with a very high-line, and the aggressive Barca side took full advantage, hurting Bayern time and again on the counter-attack.

Raphinha scored a match-winning hat-trick for Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski also came back to haunt his former club at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium on Wednesday.

Champions League standings: Bayern Munich down to 23rd place after two straight defeats

The defeat leaves Bayern Munich in a precarious position in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. The Bavarians began their CL campaign with a stunning 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb. But after suffering back-to-back defeats, they have slipped to 23rd place in the standings.

It has been a week to forget for German clubs in the Champions League, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also suffering defeats. Bayer Leverkusen were held to a draw by Stade Brest, although VfB Stuttgart did claim a memorable 1-0 win over Juventus.

Aston Villa and Liverpool are the only teams left with a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League after three matchdays, with Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Inter Milan, and Arsenal among the other teams still unbeaten.

For Bayern Munich, their next game in the UEFA Champions League is almost a must-win one. Die Roten will be in action against SL Benfica at home in two weeks' time, and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways. Bayern Munich also have fixtures against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Feyenoord coming up in the league phase of the Champions League.
