FC Barcelona are flying under former Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick. He has managed to rejuvenate the team and implement an attractive style of football since arriving at the club in the summer. The German coach helped Barcelona beat Bayern in the Champions League group stage last month with a convincing margin.
Flick built a special bond with Bayern players during the trophy-laden stint of 18 months between 2019 and 2021. The German coach reportedly wants to bring a couple of Bayern players with whom he enjoyed a great relationship during his time in Bavaria.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick wants Barcelona to pursue moves for Bayern stars Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies. Both players are in their final year of contract, which makes them free transfer targets for Barcelona. However, they will command a significant salary, which can be a problem for the Spanish club. Barcelona have tried to trim their wage bill in the last two summers to comply with the financial fair play rules in La Liga.
Bayern are not keen on parting ways with Davies and Kimmich. They have been exceptional under Vincent Kompany this season. It will be a big coup for Barcelona if they manage to get both players from Die Roten.
Barcelona have a chance to sign Davies; Kimmich likely to stay at Bayern
The Spanish club has a decent chance of signing Alphonso Davies since he is likely to leave Munich at the end of the season. The contract talks with Bayern have hit an impasse, but the Bavarian club has not given up on a renewal.
Barcelona will face serious competition from Real Madrid and Manchester United for Davies. The reports of a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid have been squashed by the left-back’s representatives. Davies thrived under Flick, which can be a significant deciding factor for the Canadian to consider a move to Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Kimmich is likely to sign a new deal at Bayern. The German midfielder has held positive talks with Die Roten about a contract extension. He has publicly hinted towards staying in Munich after getting an important role in midfield under Vincent Kompany. Unless there is a breakdown in the relationship with the club, Kimmich will sign a long-term deal in Munich.
Along with Kimmich and Davies, Leroy Sane has also entered the final year of his contract at Bayern. There will be consistent speculation regarding their futures in Bavaria until Bayern makes an announcement either way.
