Bayern Munich are working on a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. In parallel, Bayern are also exploring options in the market to strengthen their options on the left flank. It has been a summer of failed pursuits until now. The latest name to join this list of failed pursuits is Luis Diaz.
According to The Athletic, Bayern had an approach declined by Liverpool for Luis Diaz. The Premier League champions are in no mood to part ways with the Colombian winger despite him having two years left on his contract.
Earlier this summer, Liverpool had also rejected enquiries from FC Barcelona for Diaz. The Spanish champions had made Diaz their top target to strengthen the attack. Al-Nassr also have an interest in the Colombian winger, but Liverpool have made it clear that he is not leaving Merseyside this summer.
Unless there is a crazy offer for Diaz, Liverpool will not change their stance regarding his transfer. It is fair to say that this deal could well be dead in the water for Bayern since they cannot afford to pay a crazy fee for a 28-year-old winger.
Bayern look certain to sign a winger and Woltemade
Reports in Germany last week suggested that Bayern may abandon the pursuit of signing a winger after missing out on several players. They will look to sign Woltemade, who can play multiple positions in the attack.
Considering their pursuit of Diaz being reported by several media outlets on Wednesday, it does look like Bayern remain keen on signing a winger.
The Bavarian club remains in the race to sign Nico Williams, but FC Barcelona are in the driver’s seat after agreeing on personal terms with the Spaniard. Bradley Barcola is set to stay in Paris despite concrete interest from Die Roten.
The Bundesliga champions have been linked with Cody Gakpo, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kaoru Mitoma, but they are yet to make a concrete move for each of these wingers.
Bayern are already one attacker down for the rest of the Club World Cup with Leroy Sane playing his last game against Flamengo. The German winger is joining Galatasaray on a free transfer. Thomas Muller will also end an illustrious career at Bayern after the Club World Cup.
Vincent Kompany has done a great job on the pitch in his first season at Bayern. The Bavarian club needs to give the Belgian coach an ample amount of support in the transfer market to make sure the first team wins more silverware next season.
