It has been a challenging summer for Bayern Munich in the transfer market so far. They have faced disappointment on multiple fronts. Florian Wirtz was their top target at the start of summer. However, the German star decided to join Liverpool over Bayern.

Bayern pivoted towards signing a new winger on the left side after they failed to extend Leroy Sane’s contract. They have pursued moves for Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao), Bradley Barcola (Paris Saint-Germain), Jamie Gittens (Borussia Dortmund), and Rafael Leao (AC Milan), but neither of the deals is looking realistic at this stage.

Courtesy of failed moves for several wingers, Bild (via iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Bayern are considering a change in approach to strengthen the attack. The Bavarian club is completely focusing on signing Nick Woltemade in the coming weeks. They are also thinking about abandoning the idea of signing a winger if they successfully clinch the deal for Woltemade.

The 23-year-old striker can play as a nine and ten, but he can also be used on the flank. Woltemade has already agreed personal terms with Bayern. He wants to complete the transfer after the U-21 Euros, but negotiations for a deal are yet to start between Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.

The deal to sign Woltemade will not be straightforward since he has three years left on his contract at Stuttgart. Bayern will have to pay a significant fee to sign the young German forward. Woltemade’s eagerness to join Die Roten can help in facilitating the transfer for a reasonable fee.

Bayern ready to rely on senior players on the left flank

The Bundesliga champions are ready to rely on senior players to manage the workload on the left flank if they abandon the pursuit of a left winger. Kingsley Coman has already expressed his desire to stay in Bavaria this summer. The French winger has been linked with a move away from Bayern, but the departure of Sane may see Coman staying at least for one more season.

Serge Gnabry is also staying at Bayern this summer, which makes him a concrete option for wide positions next season. Gnabry and Coman have played well at the Club World Cup. Bayern will hope to see both players maintain this form and avoid injuries during next season. Michael Olise will be Kompany’s first choice option on the right flank. Jamal Musiala can also play on the flanks if needed.
