Bayern Munich may not have a lot of business to do in the upcoming winter transfer window, but the club chiefs have significant work to do regarding the contract renewal of several key players. The Bavarian club is eager to keep most players from the current squad for the next few seasons.

Joshua Kimmich is considered Manuel Neuer's successor and captain of the first team. The German midfielder has just over six months left on his contract. He will decide his future during the winter break. Bayern have held positive talks with the 29-year-old midfielder.

Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies are other players who are in active contract talks with Bayern. The Bavarian club considers both players part of their long-term future. While negotiations with Davies are more urgent due to his contract situation, Bayern are also eager to seal Musiala’s contract extension in the coming weeks.

While talking at the annual general meeting on Sunday (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern chief Herbert Hainer made a public appeal to all three players to sign a new deal. Hainer stressed how the trio can follow in the footsteps of past greats to stay in Munich for more than a decade. Notably, Hainer didn’t mention the name of Leroy Sane in this comment. The German winger also has just over six months left on his contract.

"Three different stories, three different paths - and three players who grew up here in Munich. We've had Beckenbauer, Hoeneß, Rummenigge, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Müller and Neuer. Now Jamal, Jo and Phonzy should also join these ranks - and set guardrails for the next generations, on and off the pitch"

Bayern want more consistency from Leroy Sane before offering an extension

When asked about Sane later in the event, Hainer insisted that he doesn’t want to talk about every player who has a contract expiring at the end of the season. It was quite telling that he also suggested that Kimmich, Davies, and Musiala are defining players at the club.

Things have not been rosy between Sane and Bayern. The German winger wants to stay in Munich, but the Bavarian club is yet to make a concrete offer. The latest reports in Germany have suggested that a contract extension for Sane is not likely, while a final decision will be made later in the season.

Sky Sports in Germany reported on Sunday that Bayern want to see more consistency from Sane for a contract renewal. The 28-year-old has not been at his best this season. Moreover, he has gone through several prolonged rough patches of form since arriving from Manchester City in 2020.

Since Sane is already on a big salary, it is understandable from Bayern’s perspective to be hesitant about offering a new deal. The former Manchester City winger will not negotiate with interested clubs in January. His first preference is to stay in Munich. It is going to be a nervy waiting game for the German international. Meanwhile, Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly shown concrete interest in Sane.
