Even though the transfer window was shut in Germany earlier this week, some countries in Europe can still sign players. The Turkish clubs still have a chance to strengthen the squad for the rest of the season. Galatasaray have used this opportunity to sign a player from Bayern Munich on Thursday.
After struggling to get adequate game time for Bayern during Hinrunde, Sacha Boey decided to return to Galatasaray on a loan deal until the end of the season. The Turkish club will cover Boey’s salary and pay a loan fee of €500k.
Galatasaray also have an option to buy Boey at the end of the season. According to Sky Sports in Germany, the Turkish club can sign him for €15 million in the summer. The French full-back is on his way to Turkey to complete the medical and sign the contract.
Bayern had been open to listening to offers for Boey since the start of the winter transfer window. Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyon were linked with Boey, but a move never materialized. He was expected to stay in Munich until the end of the season. Die Roten have ample cover at full-back, so they sanctioned Boey’s transfer even though the winter transfer window was closed in Germany.
Moving to Galatasaray can kick-start Boey’s career
A loan move to Galatasaray is possibly the best possible transfer for Boey at this point. He has struggled for form over the last 18 months. The injury problems and bouts with illness have not helped his cause. His chances of getting adequate game time during Ruckrunde were very slim.
Boey excelled for Galatasaray before earning a move to Bayern in 2024. He can seamlessly adapt to the Turkish league and get back to his best. Galatasaray will face Juventus in the Champions League play-off stage, which gives Boey a chance to play in the Premier European competitions.
The French defender can play every week to build fitness, which he would have struggled to do at Bayern. A strong second half of the season will give Boey an outside chance to be part of the French squad for the summer’s World Cup in the USA.
From Bayern’s perspective, a successful loan deal can help them to get a bigger fee for Boey in the summer. It is a win-win deal for all parties. After a difficult two years at Bayern, Boey will hope to rediscover his best in familiar surroundings.
