Bayern Munich were proactive in the summer when it came to trimming the wage bill. They parted ways with senior players on free transfers and also sanctioned a permanent transfer of Kingsley Coman. Apart from the obvious names, Bayern also received enquiries for younger players like Josip Stanisic.

The Croatian defender was subject to interest from Juventus in the final month of August. According to Fabrizio Romano (via iMiaSanMia), Juventus had several calls to explore a move for Stanisic. Die Roten were not keen on selling the Croatian defender, but communicated that it would take €50 million to consider a transfer.

Juventus had no interest in paying such a big fee for Stanisic. They eventually looked at other options, but the interest in Stanisic remains concrete. As per Romano, the 25-year-old defender remains a long-term target for the Italian club.

Stanisic is part of Bayern’s long-term plans. They extended his contract until 2029 when he returned from a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen in 2024. Leverkusen wanted to sign Stanisic permanently, but Die Roten moved swiftly to extend the contract of Croatian defender.

Bayern offered Sacha Boey to Juventus

Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Bayern had offered Sacha Boey to Juventus when they had enquired about Stanisic. The French defender was heavily linked with a move away from Munich throughout the summer. Galatasaray and Marseille had shown interest in Boey, but he remained keen on staying in Munich.

Stanisic made a promising start to the season, excelling in the left-back position. He had a frustrating last season due to injuries. However, his positive start to the campaign came to an abrupt halt during the Champions League game against Chelsea 10 days ago. Stanisic is set to have another spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

The injury to Stanisic has opened up the opportunity to get an extended run in the starting XI for Sacha Boey. He has started in the right-back position during the last two league games, while Konrad Laimer is playing in the left-back role.

It is clearly evident that Bayern rate Stanisic highly and wanted to keep him over Boey in the summer. The futures of both players at Die Roten will depend on how the season pans out for them. Stanisic has been very unfortunate with injuries. The Bavarian faithful will hope he returns sooner rather than later since his versatility provides tactical flexibility to Vincent Kompany. Meanwhile, Boey is finally getting a run in the starting XI. The French defender has a lot of convincing to do in order to have a long-term future at Die Roten.
