Bayern Munich are going to spend the majority of their efforts to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen next summer. The German attacker is the top target for Bayern after missing out on Xavi Simons and Désiré Doué last summer. Die Roten could be open to sending one of their top talents in the opposite direction to get Wirtz.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern could include Paul Wanner in a deal for Wirtz if they go all out for the attacker from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. Wanner is currently thriving at FC Heidenheim after leaving Bayern on a season-long loan in the summer.
Wanner plays in a similar position as Wirtz, which suggests a cash-plus swap deal will benefit Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern rate Wanner highly and want him to be part of the first team in the future. However, the young attacking midfielder will make a final decision on his future at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen will ask for a significant fee (more than €100 million) for Wirtz. The 21-year-old German star will have two years left on his contract next summer. Former Bayern President Uli Hoeness has spoken glowingly about the young attacking midfielder at the start of the season. Die Roten are likely to approach Leverkusen later in the season to know the conditions of a potential deal.
Bayern should make space for Wanner in the squad
Wanner made his debut for Bayern at the age of 16 under Julian Nagelsmann. The youngster was sent out on loan in the second division in 2023. Bayern always planned another loan move for the youngster before integrating him back into the squad. PSV Eindhoven showed interest in him, but he opted to stay in the Bundesliga.
Considering the exuberant talent of Wanner, it will be a big mistake for Bayern to sell him permanently next summer. They have successfully integrated several players from the academy in the last few seasons. A similar approach should be a top priority for Bayern when it comes to Wanner.
The Bavarian club is looking to replenish the squad with young players. They managed to get Michael Olise in the summer. Integrating Wanner into the squad next summer will bring more youthful energy and quality. Die Roten should look to find a scenario where Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and Paul Wanner can co-exist in the same squad.
Unless Wanner pushes for a permanent move, Bayern should not entertain offers for him. The top priority should be making him a full first-team squad member next summer and strengthening the squad by getting Wirtz on cash cash-only deal.
