Bayern Munich have announced another major departure from the squad at the end of the season. The record Bundesliga champions confirmed on Monday that Raphael Guerreiro will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The Portuguese full-back will be leaving on a free transfer.
Guerreiro joined Bayern from arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2023 on a free transfer. The Portuguese defender has been troubled with injuries during his time in Munich. However, he has still managed to make 89 appearances for the club over the last three seasons. The 32-year-old defender may end up playing 100 games for Die Roten if they reach the final of the Champions League and DFB Pokal.
Bayern utilized Guerreiro in various positions, including full-back, midfield, and eventually as a number ten. The Portuguese always gave his 100% in every role. He currently has 12 goals and eight assists to his name, which is decent output for a player who has made 89 appearances.
Guerreiro made 23 appearances for Bayern this season, but he has amassed game time of only 908 minutes. Considering his diminished role in the squad, it makes sense for Bayern to decide against offering him a new contract.
After three successful years, Raphaël Guerreiro will leave FC Bayern Munich this summer.

The Portuguese full-back lifted the Bundesliga title and DFL Supercup with Bayern until now. Guerreiro has the chance of winning a treble as Bayern are favourites to lift the Champions League and DFB Pokal. The Bavarian club has a lead of nine points over Dortmund in the Bundesliga title race. Guerreiro will hope to end his time in Munich on a high note by playing an important role in Bayern's bid to win the treble.
Considering his versatility, Guerreiro will not be short of offers in the summer. If he can stay fit, there is certainly a very solid player to sign for several European clubs. The 32-year-old full-back has been linked with a move to Benfica. It would be fitting for him to return to his home country after several successful seasons in the Bundesliga.
Bayern expected to sign two full-backs next summer
Along with Guerreiro, Bayern are also expecting Sacha Boey to leave on a permanent deal in the summer. The French full-back left Die Roten to re-join Galatasaray on a loan deal. His excellent performances for the Turkish club will ensure Bayern get a decent fee in the summer.
With Boey and Guerreiro leaving, Bayern are expected to sign two full-backs in the summer. They have reportedly started negotiations with Feyenoord for Givairo Read. It remains to be seen who the Bavarian club will sign in the left-back position.
