The ongoing international break provides the perfect opportunity for Bayern Munich chiefs to initiate plans for the summer transfer window. The record Bundesliga champions will need additions in midfield, attack, and defense in the summer. Die Roten will pursue a new number two if Manuel Neuer decides to hang up his boots at the end of the season.

In the defense, Bayern will play the waiting game when it comes to signing a new center-back. The contract extension of Dayot Upamecano ensures Bayern are in no rush to sign a new central defender. A new center-back will only arrive if Kim Min-jae decides to leave Bayern.

Meanwhile, the primary focus will be on the full-back positions. The Bavarian club has started working on a deal to sign Givairo Read from Feyenoord. The Dutch full-back has been Die Roten’s primary target to add more depth in the right-back position. Sacha Boey is expected to leave on a permanent transfer in the summer, opening up a space for Read in the squad.

When it comes to strengthening the full-back department, Bayern don’t want a solitary addition in the right-back position. According to AZ (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern want to strengthen both full-back positions.

Why does it make sense for Bayern to sign a left-back in the summer?

From a numbers perspective, it makes sense for Bayern to sign another left-back. They are also going to part ways with Raphael Guerreiro. The Portuguese full-back will leave Munich as a free agent. Die Roten have shown no intention to offer him a new contract.

On the right, Bayern will have Konrad Laimer and potentially Givairo Read competing for a place in the starting XI. Despite injury problems this season, Alphonso Davies is the first-choice left-back for Die Roten. Josip Stanisic is a very able deputy for Davies. The Croatian has delivered solid performances in this role for Bayern this season.

Stanisic can also play in both full-back positions, giving Die Roten much more flexibility. By adding Read and another left-back, Bayern will have five options for two positions, which is optimum for a club competing on all fronts every season.

Apart from signing full-backs, Bayern will also look to sign a midfielder, as Leon Goretzka is leaving on a free transfer. The record Bundesliga champions also want to sign a left-sided forward who can deputise for Luis Diaz next season. As things stand, Bayern will most likely make four signings in the summer.
