After the transfer activity in the winter, Bayern Munich are expected to prioritise the signing of a new right-back in the summer. Sacha Boey left Munich early in February to rejoin Galatasaray as he was struggling for game time this season. Die Roten are hoping that Galatasaray will take up the option to sign him permanently, as he has been delivering good performances in Turkey.

Courtesy of Boey’s departure, Bayern need a new right-back. The record Bundesliga champions have been heavily linked with Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read. Die Roten have started working on the deal to sign the Dutch full-back.

According to SportBild’s Christian Falk (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have opened talks with Feyenoord to sign Read. It does look like Die Roten have done their homework on the recent injury problems for the young full-back.

The Dutch defender has made only 12 appearances this season. He has been sidelined due to hamstring injuries on two different occasions this season, missing 20 games for the Dutch club. Since Bayern are pursuing a move for Read, the hamstring injuries are unlikely to have a long-term impact on him.

Read has done a brilliant job since making his debut for the senior team at Feyenoord. In 50 appearances across all competitions, the Dutch full-back has provided 11 assists and scored four goals. He is very good in possession and a solid defender, which explains the interest from Manchester City and Bayern.

Bayern moving quickly for Read to avoid past mistakes

The Bavarian club had endured a lot of setbacks in the transfer market over the last 12 months. It makes sense for them to lay down the groundwork to ensure they win the race for Read and beat the competition from Manchester City.

It will be interesting to see the type of fee Bayern are keen on paying to sign Read. Feyenoord are under no pressure to part ways with Read in the summer since his current deal expires in 2029. He signed a new contract 12 months ago. The Dutch club has significant leverage in the negotiations. In an ideal scenario, Feyenoord would like a bidding war for the 20-year-old full-back.

Bayern may have certainly got Read's buy in their project before initiating talks with Feyenoord. The young defender's desire to join Bayern can only help in signing him for a reasonable fee when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.
