Bayern Munich are relaxed about strengthening the center-back position at the end of the season. The Bavarian club will focus on other defensive positions, specifically the right-back position, to improve during the summer transfer window.

The defending Bundesliga champions sanctioned the loan departure of Sacha Boey during the winter transfer window. The French defender struggled for game time at Bayern, so he opted for a loan return to Galatasaray. Boey has enjoyed a good start to the loan spell in Turkey. He will certainly leave Bayern in the summer since Galatasaray have the option to make the move permanent.

With Boey leaving, Bayern only have one right-back in the form of Konrad Laimer. Josip Stanisic can also do a job in this role, but he is much better in the left-back position. Joshua Kimmich is needed in the midfield, while Tom Bischof can be an emergency option in the right-back role.

Bayern are exploring the options to add a more natural right-back to the squad during the summer. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern have added Benfica’s Daniel Banjaqui to the list of their right-back targets. Banjaqui and his agents are aware of Bayern’s interest.

Benfica may have to cash in this summer since the 17-year-old full-back’s contract expires in 2027. The youngster has largely played for the reserves team at Benfica this season. He has made three appearances for the senior team, two in the league and one in the domestic cup competition.

Bayern are potentially planning to rotate Banjaqui with Laimer next season if they end up signing him. It remains to be seen if the youngster is ready for such a big step at the start of his senior career.

Givairo Read remains Bayern’s first-choice option

Even though Bayern have registered interest in Banjaqui, Givairo Read remains their top target to strengthen the right-back position. Read has already held talks with Bayern regarding a transfer in the summer transfer window.

Die Roten are expected to make a move for Read once the transfer window opens in the summer. However, they will have to make thorough checks on the injury that he recently sustained. He had two lengthy spells this season due to a hamstring injury.

Feyenoord are reportedly aware of Bayern’s interest in Read. The Bavarian club will have to move quickly since Manchester City have also been credited with concrete interest in the Dutch defender.

Bayern may make a move for Banjaqui if they fail to sign Read. As things stand, a move for Read looks likely, but things can quickly change in the next couple of months.
